For those people for whom SEO is a "way of life" there was little new to discuss in the "Algo" session. However, for those who do SEO as a 9 to 5 job for some corporation, and who maybe don't read all the popular blogs, there was some useful stuff for them to digest.
The website tune-up session, as always, discovered a number of horror-stories in design, accessibility and usability, as well as the odd shady linking scheme, and complete misunderstandings of the technology being used - especially regarding error pages, HTTP status code, and redirects.

Great share.
A good article, although I think it wasn't necessary to use the F word in it so much as in this case, it detracted from the facts (imo).
I was also confused by this bit:
Since H1 tags and internal links anchor text are completely different animals, I wasn't sure what Lisa was getting at there or if they were supposed to be two separate list items.
Hi Jill,
Thanks for pointing that out, yes it was meant to be two seperate list items, just changed it! lol that's what happens when you write a blogpost at 8 o'clock on a Sunday morninglol =) Should have had that cup of coffee first =)
And apologise if my language offended you, I get a bit carried away sometimes.
Thanks for reading it.
Cheers,
Lisa
No, don't get me wrong, the language didn't offend me. You've probably seem me drop a few f-bombs before as well. I just didn't think they were necessary for that particular article is all, and they detracted from your message (which was good).
I think you'll find that you get more use out of those when you use them sparingly. (But maybe that's just me!)
@Jill, aside from the dropping of the F-bomb... I love the dropping of the word "detractor" - I use that term but some friends insist its not a real word despite that I have linked them to the Websters def.
I also don't mind the use of certain F or S or other four-letter words in normal conversation but when I'm reading a news article (blog, etc.) I do find it distracts or detracts from the content. Unless a post is for the purposes of showing off one's personality it doesn't add anything.
A nice summary a great spin/sphinn tie-in with The Matrix.
Tut tut, I keep telling her to watch her mouth - but she doesn't listen.
i thought it was a good post. 4 f-bombs...eh, big deal. if this was on an official company blog or something then yeah that would be unprofessional. but this is SEO Chicks, read the tag line: "The SEO Blog with attitude"...i think a few f-bombs are to be expected. otherwise, i'd be wondering where the attitude was.
Frankly, I don't think she used the f-bomb as much as she normally does. She's scary as hell in person.
That's true Kimber, it is the SEO blog with attitude, and yes f this was my company blog I proably have less fbombs =) Also it's worth noting I'm from Northern Norway, where swearing is not looked upon as controversial or offensive but away to express themselves. Maybe it doesn't translate =) ha!
ha! Julie you are going to make everyone scared of approaching me in Vegas now, ha! Honestly I'm not that scary. I am on the other hand VERY direct, again a Norwegian thing. We say what we mean and mean what we say.
I'm finding out that Norwegians are a bit like Aussies in that respect.
hmmmmm.... what to f-ing add..... hmmm... Oh yeah... things are always changing and PageRank hasn't ruled the roost in a while as a dominant character. As for the CTR theories, start thinking more along the lines of 'user performance metrics' (UPMs). While a seemingly instable signal, it has legs.
I would also think in terms of algorithm(s) instead of the singular in that it distracts SEOs from understanding the concept of layers..... bla bla bla.....
I do like the UPM stuff tho.... much to be said for that.
Direct is always good. (I'll wear a bullet proof vest when meeting you in vegas ;)
lol =)
