It may seem like a basic enough concept and post, but believe it or not, everyday I see so many people doing it wrong.  Good job to Chuck for posting this great information about having clean URLs and their benefit to SEO.

I freaking love apostrophe's in URLs... they make for good clean fun! Thanks for sharing this Matt, it's a great reminder of how important they really are.

Wordpress is such a beast with URL's at times.

ANyway -- writing your own slug is actually better. Now how does that? ... Anyone...? Raise your hand... Hey, where is everybody!? :)

@Ruud I'm assuming you mean writing your own meaning altering the one wordpress creates for your from your post title?

For clients I usually setup the "seo slugs" plugin as that takes out all the little words like "and", "of" and keeps them limited to the main words in the title

I created a folder and my folder name had a space in it. I created a file for a redirect and the folder showed in the folder name. Now I know what I have to do. Great article.
