Yeah? What makes you say that? They aren’t abusive, they don’t pollute the internet, and they’re pretty damn easy, in most cases.

FTA: "Submit to digg, reddit, proppeler, newsvine, sphinn any you can find. Extra points for do-follow links. And dont just submit. Promote. Get friends to vote. Use web proxies for extra accounts. If you get 2-3 votes quickly, most places will keep you on the upcoming list for significantly longer" I don’t care about the other sites, not on Sphinn, please.

@DoshDosh: The whole thing is intended to be the "non-spammy" guide, as per a request from my user. I kind of left it to the users sense of logic to pick sites that were actually relevant. I’ll be sure to fix that in the article though. I like this site, I don’t want it overwhelmed.

@SlightlyShadySEO Cheers... its a good article and I liked it. Just wanted to point out the Sphinn part in case some over-enthusiastic noob actually attempts to aggressively manipulate Sphinn after reading it.

Yeah, Sphinn manipulation is something I’ve thought over as well. It’s pretty hard to write about the stuff I tend to without1)Encouraging someone else to game sphinn(which like you, I care about. Just not so much the other social news sites)or 2)Making people think I’m gaming sphinn, which I refuse to do.Although the blackhat part of me would LOVE to toy with sphinn, if for no other reason to see what protections Danny Sullivan worked into this. Curiosity killed the cat though I guess. I don’t feel like risking a ban :-)

Whether or not I use any given technique... it’s good to know about as much as possible.... and this had a lot of things I’d never considered.

Yup, couple of things I’d not considered before - it’s always good to know the ’slightly shady’ things.  Really appreciate your writing this article. The point about commenting on the article that digg links to instead of digg itself is particularly interesting.

I think as valueable as the methods and tactics described in this post are, the potential they have to expand your thinking and inspire new ideas is twice as valuable. Nice post.

SlightlyShadySEO has written and Sphunn a ton of good articles that are excellent reads... I recommend you check out his site and Sphinn the rest of the stuff up if you enjoyed it as much as I did!cheers.

Thanks, great article. I agree with hadsomerob, it’s not only the post itself, but "the potential on expanding our thinking" to find new ideas. I already have a couple, will try them and ley you know.
