Thank you for finally clarifying the loosely touted definition of "vertical search" as well as providing valuable insight into the search hybrid analysis that is occuring like a ripple throughout the web.

I have seen video link bait searches for example using this tactic with the capability to out rank seasoned veterans with just a tag alone in the the most competitive terms ever "SEO", so how this truly impacts search as a whole will be interesting, as it essentially levels the playing field of traffic, traction and attention as the move to web 2.0 and now the new and improved search 3.0 platform. All I can say is, it's time to start sifting through search engine patents if you want to be ahead of the curve on this one.

Really interesting post Danny. I guess it's just an issue of terminology, but what you describe as Search 4.0 is what we've been calling 3D search. Maybe it's just the fact that we don't come from programming backgrounds!
