faberNovel Consulting has released a research paper on social networks. The paper is an excellent theoretical overview of social networks and the trends in this important market. Interesting that in terms of identity, Facebook and MySpace are at opposite ends of the spectrum - Facebook is viewed as "real identity", whereas MySpace is "fanntasized identity"!

I found the first half of the paper very interesting, the latter half not so much.I particularly liked the graphic that represented Digital Identity Mapping and the way they clustered different social nets around the primary question they answer about the user.  I could see that being an interesting starting point for a tool that would generate some pretty realistic personas.

I thought the vastly different business development strategies in each case study were interesting.  Lots of yummy stats.
