It has always been both entertaining and educating to witness a duel between GrayWolf and Matt Cutts. The topic as you might have guessed is about "links in paid posts". Enjoy :-)

Not bad, PageRank 6 links with targetted anchor texts. Google sure knows how to reward it’s clients.

Sphunn not for the MC vs MG aspect, but because that post (with all those comments) should be required reading for all SEOs. Tons of good information in there. Matt should be commended for publishing it, working so hard on the feedback, and allowing such characteristic cameos from Doug and Michael.Bravo all around. Good show, and didactic to boot!

"graywolf, I appreciate your efforts to find some way to accuse Google of bad behavior, but that was a normal editorial blog post."it’s not so much bad behavior as much as it is contradictory and failing policy.and i’m glad that matt admits that normal editorial practices do take place when there is money involved when links are created. despite matt claiming that "I double-checked and the Google Checkout team linked with what they thought was accurate text, and no money was involved," the link wouldn’t exist if golfballs.com wasn’t a google customer making google money--that’s the reason they’re on the page to begin with. the policy just doesn’t scale--if a site is called a directory, you’re not buying a link on a page you’re buying "someone’s time to review your site for placement in their directory"
