nothing is better than SU.
1:29 pm on 12/03/07:
Stumbleupon votes - 14
Mixx votes - 45
Guess which one is creating more traffic?
Kinda hard to ignore, isn't it?
Len
StumbleUpon is the Best, Digg is second best. I don't know what would be third but i wouild choose my own site over Mixx any day, since it is based on nearly exact open source software, except my site has a lot more features and sections. I wrote an article about it here. Nothing against Mixx, it just doesn't live up to the hype for me.

While Mixx is great, just saying that you have more votes on Mixx than SU doesn't make it better.
You can get far more visibility on SU than Mixx still.
No way a popular mixx story creates more traffic than a popular SU story. The avg SU user has to atleast to to the page to copy some text for a review or give it the thumbs up. With Mixx all you have to do is click the plus button.
Still waiting for final results. I will post vote results and traffic numbers from both sites as a reply to this post tomorrow after about 24 hours.

Great, I gave you the spinn for following up on the subject. Much appreciated.
I'm not knocking Sphinn except that the topics are limited to "internet marketing news and discussion" as the logo states while the other social sites are pretty much wide open.
I am not certain that I could generate the kind of traffic that I have experienced from both Stumbleupon and Mixx.
But I am not the one to ask about Sphinn because I really have not used it that much.
As far as traffic from Stumbleupon vs Mixx, that is what I am testing. I "forced Stumbled" to about 182 of my SU friends. I "sent", via email to about 162 of my Mixx friends.
I also did not say anything about running an experiment in my blog post.
I can tell you that Mixx is drawing more votes and comments at this point. The result in traffic could very much be in favor of Stumbleuupon because of the Stumble! button feature and the method by which Stumbleupon presents pages with this button. Mixx does not have a feature like this.
There is some debate concerning the actual value of a Stumbleupon vote and how much time is actually spent on the webpage. I can present those numbers along with the rest of the results.
As to which one is best? None of them are and all of them are.
It is, I think, a matter of understanding how to execute a blog post or article with the social site of choice to leverage the most traffic. This is a combination of the basics, and other techniques I am sure, that I refer to in my blog post titled Stumbleupon-Advanced Tactics.
This is an individual thing and will have individual results.
I always like to say "It is not how intellegent you are, it is all in the application of the grey matter".
Len
Correction,
I did not say I was running an experiment with this particular post.
Len
Good sphinn and understand your concerns Bart but I wish you'd re-write your thoughts in a way that a brain-fogged weary web-traveler could better digest if he'd just surfed in from reading 50 other articles and needed your valuable information cut into smaller pieces.
For me, it all starts with the basics I talk about at the beginning of the article located at http://www.moxie-drive.com/blog/2007/12/why-mixx-is-better-than-stumbleupon.html
1. Content
2. tagging
3. friends
Apply what I refer to about Stumbleupon with other social sites like Mixx. The basics will work anywhere. Just don't always expect to see something like the Stumble! button.

Hey Bart The Bear, I took a vote among all of my 'peers'. My peers are on my site http://www.earthfrisk.com
I betyou can guess what they said. Surprisingly though out of 136 respondents, when told of
1. Stumbleupn vs
2. Earthfrisk vs
3. Mixx
My site got slapped around, and thats on my own site. lol
124 said Stumble Upon is the best
Only 9 said Earthfrisk
and only 1 said Mixx is the best.
1 Said they never heard of Stumble Upon and couldn't download the Stumble Bar, and
1 other said they never heard of Mixx, even though My e-mail had links to all 3.
Some people - you know what I mean. lol
Now this study, like yours means nothing. I'm sure any site can do a study that is similar.
I do like your tenacity though. Sometimes you need to know when to fold em though.
Stumble Upon wins hands down, I admit it and I am the owner of EarthFrisk. If I the owner have a choice between all of these sites with Digg included I have to say that Digg beats my own as well.
So
1. SU
2. Digg
3. EarthFrisk ( Owners bias that I am even ahead of Reddit, Facebook, and others decent sites)
4. Mixx ( Partially - out of knowing my site has more to offer and anyone can see just by visiting)
So lets leave it as we agree to disagree.
And on Sphinn, where else would such a little cool exchange be? Certainly not on SU or Digg or even EF or Mixx. You gotta love Sphinn!
Agreed,
But remember what I posted? "As to which one is best? None of them are and all of them are."
I know that my Mixx numbers are very preliminary, but I am getting a great deal of positive feedback from Mixx users out of the UGC group that is coming in from Digg. There are a bunch of them. One of them was a top Digger that was banned and now uses Mixx, probably not exclusively but effectively.
You can read more about this Digger over at my friend Brian's blog post titled Life After Digg: Interview With A Banned Top Digger. It was after reading this that I started to investigate Mixx.com
I sense positive vibes from this little number called Mixx. Apparently there are many, many others that have the same vibes.
Let's give it a year and see what the numbers look like then?
Do me a favor and add some features to the site. Like I said, it has far far less than my own Earthfrisk. We have groups, networking, galleries, a section (on bottom) where people create their own pages, an article directory, Mixx has NONE of this. We even allow members to surf the web anonymously using our servers.
Mixx has - Hype, Hype, Hype and more Hype. Granted hype matters but let's be real. I understand you love the site, but anyone can throw up a Mixx in no time by just downloading Pligg software free on the net. pligg.com
You tell me what site has more to offer and you'll see why the hype is a little annoying.
That's only up against my little site. Then you dare compare to Stumbleupon and Digg, you knwo what that's like, like a little midget screaming his lungs off at Mike Tyson saying
"I'll beat you down, I'm the best, I'm the man. Tyson ( StumbleUpon) or Digg can step on Mixx and laugh. They can step on Earthfrisk and Mixx together and laugh.
See my latest comment at Mixx.com
Many Diggers are coming into Mixx, not necessarily to leave Digg as in Brian's blog post titled Life After Digg: Interveiw With A Banned Top Digger
There has also been some speculation about Digg's latest Alexa numbers in this article titled Are the Top Diggers leaving Digg???
Mixx is growing at a phenomenal rate. It feels good to be at the bleeding edge of something new like this. It feels like so much more than hype.
At the moment all I know is that "the herd" is moving and changing, which it does all the time. But who can really tell what is going on at the moment?
I give it at least a year before I would be comfortable with my conclusions in any case and with any social site, including Digg. Who can tell where they will be in a year. It could be a bubble about to pop.
Read this and anyone can tell who the real champs are. Without the hype!
