Mark is the man... I have learned so much from his blog. I was actually hoping for an update on his elite seo tools rather than this. This article is well written, but pretty common sensical stuff. I do like his presentation though.
Its nice to see you back here Lyndon. Awesome title as usual...leading to a sweet post.
Thanks Marty, I met Mark at SMX London and he is a no bullshit guy who knows his stuff, definately worth subscribing to his blog. Especially if you like the odd blackhat tip ;)
Thanks Lydon and thanks for submitting the article :-)@GeneralLedger, it was a fairly generic article, I wrote it specifically for Sphinners as an experiment. Looking at first page material, theres nothing really ground-breaking on there. The blackhat stuff didnt go down too well..
Yeah I second the part about subscribing to Marks blog... tis a great read indeed. BTW, hows it going, Mark? Havent talked to you in a while and was surprised to see you on Sphinn. :)
Mark - No criticism intended. I am a huge fan! I dont do blackhat, but I do like to know what those sneaky folk are up to =]All the best!
None taken GeneralLedger.. @DoshDosh, I signed up to Sphinn a while ago and I attended SMX, which was really the last thing that pushed me onto the site (Danny mentioned it at least once I think?? :oP)Still undecided though, it seems to be more who submits the article, rather than the quality that decides how hot it gets.Point in case, this article - submitted by me, 4 Sphinns, gone after about an hour. Change URL, Lyndon submits and its on the front page just hours later.. Seems a bit of a "club" mentality, scratch my back.. Not offense attended all to Sphinners - I think this is a great place, however I seem to be running short of time to network on the ever-growing amount social sites!Maki, youve been producing inhuman amounts of blog posts recently, slow down - theyre great quality and I dont get time to read them all - and I hate falling behind!
I wish Id have chosen my words as good as you when I brought up the "club" mentality. I caught a lot of flak bringing up the obvious and simply discussing it a while back. (my comments even led to an article that went hot basically saying I was a fool) There really is this idea here that because we all already know about social media that this place will somehow not be like other social media sites. The reality is it is. (which dont get me wrong, thats fine with me, but I think its very silly that people want to believe its not when as mark points out, its very obvious)
I guess one can argue thats kind of the point in these kinds of sites. You can build a reputation by networking so your content has a kind of "verified" status, when a "trusted" member sphinns/diggs/reddits/etc it.I think it naturally leads to this kind of reciprocal voting though, with a lot of people wanting to return the favour. Im not knocking Sphinn, I guess Im just impatient - I spend a lot of time writing quality blog posts, but it sometimes seems I could have a greater readership if I churn out medicore posts and use the saved time on marketing, ideally youd have time for both.Ill probably end up using Sphinn more as a resource for checking out new blogs, rather than actively particupating myself because of this. Its a shame that an article when hot if it was knocking you, cant say I ever saw it. It can be intimidating when "heavyweights" disagree with you, you do get some rather "extreme" readers wholl take their idols words as gospal, without questioning anything, I wouldnt worry about it. As long as you admit when youre wrong and stick to your guns when you think youre right, things tend to blow over fairly quick as long as youre not overly offense =)Ive had bloggers write negatively about me before, but its always best to reserve judgment until you meet them in person, turns out most of the people Ive met have been pretty stand up guys (and girls). Plus, if they turn out to be a **** when you meet them in person, you can always bottle them. Hah =)
