I'm surprised Danny Sullivan felt the need to write that article, as I am somewhat surprised by the discussion around the Farmer/Panda update. Google changes its algorithm. We've all been through that before. Some sites do better after the change; some do worse. Total number of searches on Google hasn't declined. For Google users, this change is almost nothing but good because the SERPs are better.
I don't think anyone is seriously saying SEO is dead.
