While I've been doing social media for fun for a long time, I only recently jumped in on a professional level.  GREAT point about how social media won't work if the client's site is flawed.  Thanks for sharing your experience!

Great post. There is a lot of buzz right now about social media in the internet marketing circles. I just got a bunch of emails from "gurus" about a program from Stomper.net about how to use social media to make tons of money. Marketers seem to always try to "bend" the current effective media to this end.
