There is a trend that many have hinted about in the world of Sphinn. But I dont recall seeing a true discussion on the matter.
I pose the question...to any and all Sphinners out there...Which is more important to you having a post that spawns interest through comments/discussions or a post that goes hot?

Lol. Well I guess we know your answer. Personally, the traffic is great from being on page one in Sphinn, but more than anything I would rather inspire discussion. This is the reason Im on Sphinn and not Digg. I reside here to tune my ear to my SEO/SEM/SMM/Whatever peers. The traffic is good, but Sphinn traffic doesnt convert into anything either by freelance work or affiliate links. But I cant love the discussions that start enough. Its amazing to hear what other professionals have to say and share. Thats the heart of social media.
Votes dont me what people are thinking.
Votes dont tell me what people were thinking, or why they voted.
I guess it depends what you came for. I submitted my article about spiders not passsing referral and the comments from g1smd were more valuable than any traffic i got from it. I guess it also depends where in the SEO ladder you are positioned - are you high up with the big dogs or are you making a name for yourself - the former floating their ideas with the crowd and looking for discussion, while the latter probably going for the sphinns and the traffic...which doesnt mean i am up there... I guess there is an exception to any rule :)))
@neyne - the reason i posed the question to everyone is that I noticed when I was on the networking tab that there is a large difference in the number of comments/questions/discussions being left behind on submissions than the number of sphinns there were being performed. There are exceptions to my findings but there is less of this happening. The numbers dont lie.I have tabulated the first 5 pages when sorted by comments and by sphinns. And I also understand that we dont always have the time to further a post with a discussion but I am just hoping for the gap to close between the two. It would be nice for a small reason as to why someone thought an article was worth a sphinn. As it would nice to hear(read). Total comments: 17,157Total sphinns: 102,663
well, I was thinking about it in the wake of the recent posts about how hard it is to get into the hot list on sphinn. It is just another example of giving votes (or not giving them) for irrelevant reasons. Of course I would also like to see the gap close a bit. I would also like to see more sphinns based on quality and the value the article gives to the community, than on the name of the sphinner written under the title.I think the best place to see that is the Sphinn Live page. When you see the frequency of sphinning by a single user, it is clear to you that he/she has not read the articles and is only sphinning because of the popularity/out of habit/whatever wrong reason they have....
Great question ... definitely the comments. I love nothing more that having an epiphany, that AHA moment that can only come from the third mind collective made possible by different perspectives.
Im more a comment man, myself :)
@everyone - Thank you everybody, I appreciate and enjoyed all responses to my question. From time to time I like to see if I can get a good sphinn going where I can someones true feelings on a subject. I am not looking to call anyone out ever but to have everyone take a step back look at what we can offer and above all lets have some fun....
I will quite often read a whole bunch of articles and make comments on a few of them.I will then go back to the upcoming list and vote for all those that I want to vote for, and then do the same again on the hot list. When I do that you will see six to ten votes appear in less than a minute, and then see no more votes until later that day, or the next day.I find it easier to do it that way, as Ill not always remember to vote at the same time I made my comments.I assume that everyone does know that it isnt just the number of votes that determines whether a story hits the front page or not. The number of comments is also another factor.@neyne: Glad that I could help.
@g1smd - you mention the number of comments is also another factor. I wasnt aware of that, I have looked for any type of story on that or some mention of it in the help section. Do you know of a magic number?
