Dr. Pete discusses strategies to use to get your boss to pay for YOU to goto related conferences. What an ingenious post. If you missed Pubcon in Vegas, SES or SMX in New York, or are going to miss SMX in Santa Clara in February ... this post is for you. See you there!

Thanks, Jeff. I just want to make sure I get to meet more SEM folks the next time I hit a conference. Plus, more people to buy me drinks that way :)

I’d say don’t show your boss the conference site.  Once they find out how much fun is built into these things you’re doomed.

I’ve found that if you prove you can deliver on what you learn and also are outgoing and not afraid to network - you can turn a conference into money for your boss.  Every conference I go to I search for somethign that we can monetize for the company - and make networking contacts that will help everyone here - internal and external.  Luckily I havent had to "beg" for conference digs - but I probably wouldnt put it past myself :)Great post!~Carrie
