For many, it might be considered the "Beginning of the End of SEO," since the rise of personalized and customized search results, as well as quality-based ad ranking, will change the way search marketers go about their jobs.
With these trends and others taken in total, it seems to me that the best way to sum up the events of 2007 is to call it the "Year the Search Industry Grew Up."

Good article.... I think Social Media started walking this year and will be running by next year!
Wonder how many sphinns this would get without SEW in the name?
@Gab - that was my oversight. Its been corrected now, so i guess well see the answer to your question soon. :)
Great insights showing what factors impacted search the most in 2007 -- a good review for everyone with an eye on search.
@Gab -Search Engine Watch ... Good. ...SEW ... baaaad. (to paraphrase Young Frankenstein) Search Engine Watch (SearchEngineWatch) may have been the worst domain name in search engine history for a keyword acronym: SEW. So I agree, SEW in a title always puts Search Engine Watch at a disadvantage.Or did you mean the Sphinn community wouldnt vote for a Search Engine Watch blog post? Pouvez me suggerer dautres articles meillleurs? Quels reporteurs vous plaisent?
As a newbie to SEO (yes, I know Ive mentioned that before), I really appreciate this 2007 summary. Looks like I picked an interesting year to hop on board! Lets see what 2008 has in store :)
