Interesting but too much unnecessary work. I see the value in using smaller niche socials to develop traction but its far easily to just work the major sites, especially when youre good at marketing or have a great bait. Itll all filter down to messageboards, blogs and other socials in the end.Reddit, Digg and SU are the ones you only really need to care about and its all very simple: 1. Create bait 2. Disseminate it through an influencer 3. Support it with your personal network of voters/sneezersAnd youre all set for viral. Least amount of work for the ROI you want.
Yup. Good tips dosh.Im aware there are easier ways to do it. And perhaps for people who are better at picking out what will be successful(like yourself), thats enough. But for the rest(like me), I wanted to create the way to get the biggest boost for the article. But yes, very valid in many cases.
@doshdosh - you are speaking accurately but I believe your target audience would be academics, or very white hattish kind of people. You have to remember who comprise the bulk of shadys target audience... people who have no interest in the things you just mentioned. All very good and true but just not for everyone. The "least amount of work" is only less if the worker is capable and inspired about the work methods you described. Some people just get more of a charge out of taking the roads less traveled.
Dosh DoshSimply put, i have not tried reddit much but will look more into it now.
its all about sharing what you feel about stuff, recommending stuff to your friends, its that simple.....its age old, its nothing new.Viral this and viral that, what a load of cobblers, we have been doing it since the day we were born, the only difference is that we are folllowers and cravers of the latest money making tool and think that we can do it all over night, but thts not our fault as we live in this speed of light culture.Viral is about NOT selling , it has nothing to do with TRYING to sell!So many people do not get that part.Social Networking is a very natural and beautiful way to create wealth online but if you see SN purely as a business model , you are better off just not bothering as the whole idea and concept of the viral thing is that your neighour tells you they saw something cool that YOU might like . That is the true esscence of what is viral yeh ... your mum yapping with the person next door, the postmans hand getting peed on by the dog and people lauging and talking about it, then what happens ? somone sais i know where you can get your clothes cleaned! , I know of a dry cleaners so, the dry cleaning guy makes money because the postman got his hand peed on, then somone knew where the postman could get his clothes cleaned ...and the dry cleaner dude makes some money. All this from a single natural funny event that happened in a community ..... VIRAL !But there is much more to the idea of what is seen as Viral. You can use that natural SN vibe in ALL aspects of your business, it makes it so powerful and modern and will make your business NOT LOOK LIKE A BUINESS! but a genuine partner / friend that lives in your local cyber community that knows somebody that knows somebody .. that can do or has somthing that you might need or want to buy .... ETCGet it?Happy New Year !Ray

You have to remember who comprise the bulk of shadys target audience... people who have no interest in the things you just mentioned. All very good and true but just not for everyone.I do know who Shadys target audience is and his article isnt particularly sneaky or gray/blackhat. Its actually quite tame. I did sphinn it because it offered an alternative opinion on how to do SMM. I dont agree when you say that people who read that stuff dont have an interest in the things Ive mentioned. And I didnt say my comment was for everybody. Academics or very white hat? How so? Theres nothing academic or very white hat about getting influencers to disseminate your content. In fact, its the smart and right thing to do. The "least amount of work" is only less if the worker is capable and inspired about the work methods you described. Some people just get more of a charge out of taking the roads less traveled.No. Least amount of work to get the same results. This has nothing to do with user motivations or interest.
