There are numerous warning signs that you should be able to pick up on. If someone sounds like a jerk during the pre-contract meetings, chances are they are a jerk. It is up to you to decide what level of frustration, irritation, rudeness, and pressure you are willing to handle.

I agree completely! Consider this - if a prospect is really hard to win - than they may not be worth winning. I'm not referring to lots of proposals and meetings. What I mean is having to explain value, and necessity, answering pointless questions, or having to adhere to a level of quality that does not fall into line with the scale of work being proposed. If this is happening than you need to consider that the prospect may not be worth it because you may not be profitable on their work!

Thanks for pointing this out to everyone!!

I had this issue with some bum who wanted more services at a lower price! I just stopped returning his phone calls. Since then, I've gotten much better leads, from people who have the budget to pay me a just value for my services.

Thanks guys. I've seen my company make the mistake one too many times, and I'm hoping everyone else can learn from the mistake as well.

Oh yeah. I love the ones that say "I live in a poor country, I can't possibly afford to pay such money" or "Can I please pay it off over 24 monthly instalments?" What am I? A bank?
