Now thats what Id call a review. Nice work Danny.
Wow, that is border line too much. Who is actually going to go through that entire list. I think I would rather watch paint dry.
Im giving it to new staff as homework tomorow ;)
@Tim:Do you work at Sadistic SEO? (j/k)That would hurt my brain. Especially because of repetitiveness.
You can take the boy out of the newspaper office but....
I sure hope SEL has some internal tools that automated most of that. :-) Great work, Danny!
Sadly, it was like a day of hand work. There is an internal way I could do it, but it wouldnt pick the top story, plus there would be a lot of repetition. I also find it interesting to cast a manual eye when doing a review, too.Brian, I expect most people will skim the list and focus on key areas they like, say the Yahoo: Employees area that shows how many execs have departed and so on.
@SlightlyShadySEO - haha. Well, I wouldnt expect them to read it all in one night! ;) The quiz isnt until Friday. Yes, kidding
The volume approach to frontpaging... I think this is a tactic that is going to become less effective as time passes and people realize that, as these comments show, theyre never really going to read all those 100 top tips and tricks for whatever. It works offline because people sit down to read a magazine. Online, peoples attention span is much shorter.
Gab, not really sure what you mean. This isnt a top 100 list. Its the entire year in search, on one page. I dont at all expect someone to read all of it. I expect most people will scan it, remember a few things theyve forgotten and move on.
Its great Danny. Especially to help bring new students up to speed with whats been happening in the search arena for the past 12 months. I have a whole lesson dedicated to industry history and I generally update it every few months by manually scanning the press release archives of all the major engines etc for the most important events. Youve just made my next timeline update a whole lot easier, thanks!
Danny this is most superb piece of work! GREAT JOB!!! Its great to see all the good articles on one page that I can refer back to without having to scan the search engines to find it.Beth
Well, at least I wasnt the only one who was compiling a huge-ass post over the holidays. ;) Nice work, Danny. Thats one hell of a great job youve done.
