Today we’re announcing schema.org, a new initiative from Google, Bing and Yahoo! to create and support a common set of schemas for structured data markup on web pages. Schema.org aims to be a one stop resource for webmasters looking to add markup to their pages to help search engines better understand their websites.

I'm surprised that nobody has commented here on this...

I'm all for structured data possibly being a ranking signal in the future, looks like that future isn't as far as many thought.

I'm not a fan of how the big corps came together leaving the work of the semweb community behind (or picking what they want from it and forcing the public to play their way), but syntax and politics aside, I'm stoked.
