.
do you think Sphinn should time stamp posts with the actual "posting" time or the "start of post" time?

I do the same. Id prefer it if the stamp is as of end of post however in case of dispute (two people submitting the same post at the same time) maybe it needs to be at the beginning?
Yea, Ive begun a post, then went to amke a pot of coffee or something only to come back and see that I begin mid page. Booo
A trap for the unweary!
been caught once too when i first started in Sphinn
Yeah, and it locks up the URL of what might be timely news. (e.g. accidental squatting)
Sphunn, but damn. This is going to block out my lovely trick I use.I put everything into notepad before clicking the submit button, so Im just a few copy and pastes away from submitting. Time in and out, 10 seconds.
@SlightlyShadySEOSHHHHH, letting out secrets...Another method if you need to get it out ASAP is to hurry and make a good headline, with a temp description, then go back and write your prefered description with more thought. You will still be half way down the page, but you will still have had eyes viewing your submission with possible votes.
If I have to game Sphinn to that level of detail then somethins really wrong with me.. ;-) Ive got bigger fish to fry and the fryolater that can do it.
I learned this lesson too.. I used to spend to much time "thinking" and re-writing the headline or descrip and then by the time I submit its fourth on the list of Whats New.
Interesting observation, does a few places donw the whats new list really make that much difference though?
I also think this is wrong.
I wish to strongly support the approach suggested by SlightlyShadySEO. I always prepare every item in Notepad (including this) unless it is extremely short. In some cases as Im writing I may think of extra information I wish to add in. This off-line approach means I can do that without stress. When Im ready I can also look back at what is happening in the thread. In some cases this means that I do a further re-edit of what I have written given others comments. With respect to the question being asked, this approach avoids any problems. However for others not doing this, I think time-stamping should be done as the item is posted
So much for the cool notepad trick :). Thanks for the post Scott. Good job.
The timestamp is legacy code brought across from the core Pligg software. I believe it prevents dupe postings by creating a story in the database as soon as you specify its URL and then populates the content afterwords. Removing this feature could result in you spending time writing a new Submit, only to find that someone else has submitted the story in the meantime.I think that a lot of people write their Submits in a text editor first in order to Spell Check (although I know that Firefox users can do this in the browser).Although I recognise that the timestamp issue may be irritating, changing this could cause more problems than it solves.
