Let’s face it, we do flatter daily in real life either sincerely or on purpose. There is no secret that flattering is also a widely used social media marketing tool. With it you can get more social friends, their support and help, and establish yourself as a social network power user.

From the most hardcore hacker groups, to the Librarian’s Internet Index.. flattery is an almost essential skill for getting "in." This article highlights some of the subtleties of the art.

In some cases, flattery will get you nowhere. Too much raises the noise level and ruins a forum. What percentage of a community forum is to be community vs. forum? Too many congratulatory just-posted-to-be-flattering posts ruin the forum aspects. Not enough flattery doesn’t. So err on the side of less (?) not more. Except when success is a popularity contest. Then more flattery works, right up until the community forum is destroyed by all the noise and there are no members except the flatterers flattering each other. Any one here able to name one of those? Or ten?

You might want to read the original post, I guess. It’s all about flattery that adds value by contributing expert evaluation of the work. That’s not instructing people to post "just-posted-to-be-flattering" comments...
