"If Search Wikia ultimately does gain traction and can live up to its guiding principles, we may yet see the emergence of a truly useful alternative search service. Just don't hold your breath for that to happen any time soon."

Wow, called it a crappy service, I thought Arrington was harsh. I rather like the new service. It's social networking with search at its heart.
I'll give it time, after all Jimmy Wales gave us Wikipedia, as such the users will come to Wikia and the service should reflect the community involvement in time.

And it wasn't meant to be (yet). I think the entire concept of Wikia will make for an interesting experiment, and quite possibly a valuable search tool. My favorite part about it is the understated social networking features.

As for Google, even Matt Cutts has a profile on it (assuming it's the real Matt Cutts). Ultimately, if its model holds true, its value will be determined by how the users mold and influence it.

Considering it started with nutch it's still a turd and no matter how much you polish a turd all you get in the end is a shiny turd.

Wikia didn't illuminate too many neurons in my cannister either, at its heart its nutch very much at the moment. It'll be interesting to look at it again in a few months.

How long before we see wikipedic cross pollenation and integration me wonders? And if/when that does occur, then how long after that until we see a diminuation in Wiki SErP performance? Unless perhaps, they use Google as a preferred ad partner...
