That's one of the most ridiculous things I have read all day!
what a joke, the ncaa and all the other leagues should be drooling for this kind of social attention, not banning it. i've heard of a few grassroots kind of things but not an official game promotion so here's an idea for a savvy sports promotions director:
- twitter night
- blogger night
- alt media night
- no traditional media allowed night
hey mike veeck, are you out there?I have to agree. Looks like the crazies run the show.
Those posting restrictions are for "live bloggers"... so what is to stop someone writing up the whole game, pace by pace, throw by throw, step by step, and kick by kick, and then posting the whole lot 30 seconds after the final whistle.
I guess the definition of "live blog" is "while play is on", so that wouldn't be live blogging.
I'd like to see them take out a live blogger like Lisa Barone or Tamar Weinberg. Touch their laptops and you'll be kicked in the kneecaps.
Have you ever been kicked out of a place for twittering or live blogging? Sounds kinda fun and it would give you a lot to write about. :)
As long as bloggers are perceived at attention stealers (they monetize attention as a business model) they will be "managed". And as this kind of junk happens it will get worse (as I believe is natural).
Bloggers need to generate and demonstrate a value proposition for sponsors or they will be shut out. No different than environmental activists 20 years ago. Some chose terrorism, some chose science, and some chose politics, but eventually they achieved credibility for their chosen profession and are now a welcomed segment of most civil society.
Congratulations!
Now you know how photographers feel getting harassed for having a camera just about anywhere and being banned from most events.
