It took long discussions and much work to select only 2 of those 13.Btw. who the f*** reported this? Id prefer a solution with more accountability like at Mixx where people who bury stuff have to do it openly.
Way to go Ann and Bart! @onreact: I agree. Very odd that someone would spam this!
Congrats Leonart and Ann!
Two very worthy Ninjas. Congrats!
Let me see if I can investigate the spam report...
>>>>Let me see if I can investigate the spam report...well, it wasnt I that spam reported it, though I can sort of see why it was done. But tamar, you either need to make the spam reporting feature public or keep it private. Not start a witch hunt into whats purported to be an anonymous, no accountability feature and start throwing accountability into it after the fact.My understanding was that spam reporting it put it in front of the mods already anyway, so whats to investigate other than whats normal for the course?
More pertinent to the thread, isnt Ninja as it relates to SEO a Jim Boykin term?
Social Media contest was started a few days prior to Jim release great minds and all that in honour of Ninja day back in December
Wheel, first of all, I dont do development and the feature is relatively new. I can pass those issues along to the right people.Second of all, if someone has a problem with the Social Media Ninja terminology versus Internet Marketing Ninjas, let them say so in the post. This clearly is not spam. Its a post in good fun and thats all. Jims program is a paid program whereas this was just a contest. Bottom line. Flagging this as spam when it isnt was in poor taste. From what I understand, the spam button is for clear spam, such as someone selling Viagra on Sphinn or talking about cancer treatments. If you disagree with the post, there will be a Desphinn button eventually. But spam? No.Ill see that someone else on the Sphinn team addresses this post but I just thought Id give you my $0.02 before that.
All - The spam button is for reporting outright spam, as Tamar states above. It is not for disagreeing with or voting down an item. Within another week or so, well be bringing on a new feature that will allow users to "desphinn" (not to be confused with "unsphinn") an article. And it will not be anonymous. Anyone that thinks an article is poor quality, or does not believe it merits value or sphinns, will be free to hit the button, and leave a comment as to why they are desphinning the item. The comment is required. And there will be an additional tab - next to "Who Sphunn This" which will say "Who De-Sphunn This?" - clicking that link will display the list of users that have done so. So no cowards. The spam button will likewise change - in that the counts will not be displayed. Reporting spam is NOT completely anonymous however. Were tracking whos clicking and if we see abuse or people using it inappropriately, we will review and suspend their account if necessary. This has not been an issue to date, and the "desphinn" feature will allow people to do what they may be using the spam report button to do.Also note that all stories that end up in spam jail are reviewed by mods, and if it is determined that they are not in fact spam, they will be requeued and the reports investigated. Hope that clears up a few things. And now, for my cofffee.
Ok, let me just suggest something, I wouldnt make "report spam" function so easy - people can click just out of interest or to see who actually spammed this previously [I am afraid thats what I just did, sorry, guys, I just wanted to see who had done that] - and those clicks will be counted as actual reports - maybe that would be better to ask for confirmation or smth?
@annie7 - Im hopeful that errrors like the one you made will not occur once the count and color changes are removed. Weve not had too many accidental spam reports. Also, please dont hesitate to contact us and let us know you accidentally clicked that button - we can reverse it in such cases. As Ive done with your report :-)
Thank you everyone for you votes. It is an honor!Congradulations SEOSmarty!
>>>>Second of all, if someone has a problem with the Social Media Ninja terminology versus Internet Marketing Ninjas, let them say so in the post.I just said it in my post. Not that I care personally. But Jim Boykins been using the term Link Ninja related to SEO for many years. Not since last December like these folks. I attended a link ninja course at his offices probably 2+ years ago and he was using the term related to SEO before that. I assumed hes the originator of the term as its being used (a whois on linkninjas.com shows 2+ years). Its not my business, but Jims a pretty big name in the industry and seems everyones jumping on the ninja bandwagon. I wouldnt use it myself out of respect for him. But thats what opinions are for, everyones got one. Two minutes in the penalty box for trampling on someone else in the industrys known term.As for the spam, this entire contest is promotional, then the promotion here on sphinn isnt news and its not even interesting, its to promote someones promotion. Its a big circle jerk. Hold an seo contest, name some names and winners, promote it on sphinn. Close enough to spam for me. I didnt report it myself as I noted, but I can see why others did. Personally Id have used the despinn button if we had one.Theres too many people who sell SEO services using sphinn to self promote. If youre selling SEO services, and write a promotional blog post (I dont care if you try to make it interesting, or call it a top 10 list, youre doing it to promote your blog or services) then get it sphunn, thats spam. Or as we like to call it around here, sphamm :).Apologies for the thread jack. Id start a seperate post, but Im not promoting anything and nobody sphinns my crap anyway :).
wheel, good call. But did the person who flagged it as spam feel the same way as you about Jims title? If that was their reasoning for flagging it as spam, then sure, that is all well and good. I just think that doing so otherwise is in poor form unless they have a good reason to do so.And you bring up a point that I think the Sphinn staff intends to address. A similar discussion ensued here just a few days ago about the self-congratulatory nature of Sphinn (for now). Thats why the Desphinn button will be created so that spam gets handled differently than content that people just dont like. According to your very insightful logic, posts like these can be in a gray area, but in reality, so far, its not the kind of spam weve been aiming to combat. To me, marking something as spam is a lot more scathing than just not vouching for it. By the way, actually, people do Sphinn your crap. I just Sphunn your comment. ;)
Sorry for marking it as spam, was an accident. I have sphinned it though if you notice...
Yeah, well, look at what you started :).Clearly the sites is still having some growing pains around here. Its getting better though.
Congratulation to Ann & Bart
