Whether you agree with the conclusion or not, Slate tries to make the case that Google+ will survive for only another year or two before Google has to shut it down. An interesting read, especially in light of the user-started discussion we published yesterday.

I think this article ignores that Google+ is positioning itself not as a timewaster like Facebook, but as the keystone of authority metrics for the search engine. I'm unconvinced that Google+, simply an extension of Profiles, is going away any time soon, especially with rel=publisher and rel=author likely becoming more powerful over time...
