This post is short and to the point about the benefit derived from having keyword(s) in your domain name.

I still think keyword in domain is VERY important.  In non-competitive areas - it can pretty much take care of a lot of your worries - so more than 5-10% weighting. ;-)  In competitive areas - less so.

GREAT subject matter though.

The counter-argument to your idea that the value of a keyword domain going down due to unavailability is that it will go up because that keyword must be popular and whoever owned those keyword domains first must be more important.

Of course, we all know that isn't necessarily true in a world of domain-squatters and the like. However, it's just that it is all speculation at this point anyway. The `SEO` market -per se- is feeling more like trading `futures commodities` more and more each day.

As for weighting, I wouldn't think anyone would argue that a keyword in a domain is helpful. It's just a matter of, "how helpful?" It is probably helpful to the degree that META keywords are helpful, but keep in mind that the weighting is purposely changed from time to time anyway. One site with keywords could be on top today; gone tomorrow; and then back on top again in 3 months. :)

I have to agree with JakePM, very good strategy for a niche.
