Agree!!  While ’the basics’ are important (and change!), experimenting in the particular space you’re optimizing for is essential  Disagree with the reciprocal mention.  Tread carefully there whether it’s a competitor or not!

Keep in mind charlie that this advice is for tiny niche blogs that are targeting very uncompetitive keywords. Reciprocals can always be argued about but remember that it’s a different ball game when uncompetitive keywords are involved. ;)
