Perhaps theyre using an old data set instead of current? Though I like youre theory better than mine :).
Google Directory has been updated data from DMOZ, but it isnt Google Directory PR Export.Google Directory PR Export - export of Real PR to the Google Directory 8 unit scale (no longer called a PR update as Real PR is updated continously and the Google directory PR change is an export of that updated value). The green bars in Google Directory links to http://www.google.com/intl/en/dirhelp.html#pagerank , but there seems to be no ALT-text or something similar in the html-code :
...
The value width=22 seems to be the length of the green field of the bar, indicating the PR, but how do you determine the PR value (0-10) from that?It is not a straight mapping of PR values from elsewhere, but a compressed version with only 8 distinct values. Thus, you cannot deduce the "normal" 10-step scale here.
Maybe it is older, but it is newer than the data from all the October updates., otherwise I wouldnt have seen the jump in my own position. It really only confirms what has been said by Google in the way they are applying the penalties, but it provides a useful backdoor to get an idea about true standings. It is a shame that the general public wont see the true listings, as I am sure very few use the Google Directory, and will only see the manually manipulated version. It is possible to deduce actual values if you can compare to known values and historical reference.
Does joe consumer actually pay attention to TBPR? Im not sure they know what it is.(maybe they do, I really dont know).I do know that sites that rank in Google are percieved as trusted by many consumers. How little they know :).
"It is a shame that the general public wont see the true listings"i agree with wheel. only webmasters care about pagerank in any form.
"I do know that sites that rank in Google are percieved as trusted by many consumers. How little they know :)" - wheelThat is SO true on both points!
Whats up puravida! Its been a long time.Andy - I have a lot of respect for you, but I think that your opinion on this might be a bit off base, in that I dont think you can correlate that the directory PR values are "real" PR values. If I had to guess, both the 8-point directory and 11-point toolbar values are truncated version of Googles "real" PR calculation, which is not available to the public.
