After all the discussions of cloaking, approved cloaking, and Google finally deciding to label pages that require a login, it looks like the NYT -- who were accused of getting away with approved cloaking -- will be dropping their practice of charging for access to some content.

I wonder if this will help their rankings, since this is good for their users. If it does then it gives more credence to the google guidelines.

Being stuck behind a closed wall makes it hard to keep enough authority to keep that market position and market influence.
