The New York Times reports that traffic to Google Maps has grown sharply over the last year, and this increase does not appear to be at the expense of MapQuest traffic. MapQuest is still generating 10x as much traffic as Google Maps.

Very Interesting!

Google added maps to local search results last year, sending more people to Google maps before they had to think about going somewhere for "directions". I'm sure overall use of mapping is increasing steadily at the same time. I find people choosing mapquest because they know it and don't know about Google's directions. I can't stand the directions they generate from mapquest because I am a Google maps user (mapquests direction maps are very small and lackdetail when printed along with directions).

I think the take away is that mapping is huge and getting huger.

Ask.com still has the best maps site I've seen. But apparently they are lost without the guidance of Jeeves.

Shady man ... you crack me up! You'd at least think they'd 'ask' :)

Thanks, SlightlyShadySEO, for that ASK reference.  It certainly looks very good.

i prefer Gmaps over mapquest. I think the directions are much harder to understand on MQ. I usually end up lost =( Good thing for GPS
