Hi,
Yep okay, so Twitter can be okay for driving a bit of traffic to your website but hasnt it got a higher purpose. I have written quite a lot on twitter, totday they annouced an integration with Google earth and the International disasters agency to create and early warning system. Personally I think this is the most innovative way that Twitter has been put to good use yet. I am still not 100% convinced that its a good tool, originally I wrote about Twitter being awaste of time. Basically I can see that it has got some use, but I really thing that if the SEO community is really scrapping the barrel driving traffic by publishing their thoughts. I know you can link it to blog posts etc, but that is not really what twitter is all about.

Twitter is guilt-free instant messaging. Guilt-free because unlike with a regular IM with a regular contact list youre basically talking into thin air: youre broadcasting. This means youre not bothering anyone. The "contact list" you keep is less guilt-laden too. You "follow" someone -- and they "follow" you or not. Adding someone to your list is a one-way action. The other person doesnt need nor get the chance to accept/reject this action. The many-to-many functionality is impressive and fun. Marketing and branding-wise Twitter is (yet another) attention stream where you can meet your customers/fans/peers/etc. If "your crowd" is likely to use this type of channel -- why opt out of it?On a personal level, Twitter is as useful or useless as the postcard, telephone, email, SMS and IM: its just another way to do something.
Twitter is great because instead of just reading a blog post by a marketing guru you can get a glimpse into how they think even about trivial things. Twitter makes everybody a bit more human and relatable.I find Im more likely to follow a link they post in their twitter than I would in a blog post.
Actually, you CAN block somebody from following you, Ruud.Personally, I find Twitter useful for getting quick advice/information, for keeping up with things, for building relationships -- and Ive only been actively Twittering for less than a week.In fact, Ive had one VERY interesting business idea already emerge from it.I also got a nice backlink already from an elite blog.CAM
Twitter is one of three tools that I use to connect often with those that I want to or need to. I have had to re-write my follow and block list three times to eliminate a little noise but overall its very valuable as a daily tool (if you dont get addicted and live there :). Its all in how, and how often , you use it.
Twitter is so darn good for short communication that you could engage with a quick chat with anyone on twitter - which wouldnt be possible with conventional media like IM.Moreover, twitter also helps you build a follower base who will eventually make you a "guru"So, who wants to be a guru?
Is it just me, or can one not log into twitter using firefox -
I have no problem using Firefox with Twitter. Otherwise I wouldnt be using it. I only use IE where Im forced to such as some weakly designed government websites.
Apologise for the poor grammer and bad spelling in my original comment by the way. I really should use that spell checker more. Seems like Twitter and its application as a useful tool might be something which will be debated for some time.
Thank you for sharing. On my first day of signing up to Twitter, I kind of not figure out how to go about with Twitter because its different from other social sites. But now, its ok with the herlp of some posts from other media sites.
