I will be suprised if any show to be honest. Lets not get to excited. None have submited their contact information yet.
BUT PEOPLE AGREE that 95% of SEOs are crap. Its the experts that arent in the 95%...right?Im not sure where this mini eruption occured...
I totally agree with you viperchill, Its actually hard to find those really good SEO Experts, shoemoney doesnt consider himself to be one but others still consider him as one.
so shoe comes out and offends 95% of the industry and then asks us to come on his show and defend ourselves and our craft? i dont think so.
I think 95% of "Make Money Online"ers are crap!.. heh.
@shoemoney: You have a negative opinion about SEO yet your biggest adsense check was earned with 100% organic SEO. What gives?
"so shoe comes out and offends 95% of the industry and then asks us to come on his show and defend ourselves and our craft? i dont think so."oilman, not doing it would be a total cop-out.
@oilman: read the article dude. People area blowing this into a "shoemoney said seos suck" which isnt what I said. I said 95% of "I hate 95% of SEO Experts". If you came on my show you would just agree with me which would be boring.@crashingflwrgrl: I made a quality site/service that people wanted to link to. You have amplified my point. Like most I doubt you have even read the article.
I told Jeremy Id be thrilled to participate - Im not sure if the timing can work, but hopefully we can do it. Hes a very considerate debater on his show - willing to listen, engage and defend his point of view articulately. I think it would be great fun :)
So rand you dont think 95% of seos are crap?
Yawn.
I think Shoe has brought about a great bit of linkbait and Ill defo tune in -- but Im concerned about the longterm effect his rep has with the majority of SEOers (95%). Remember, these guys will grow in their own stature in the up-and-coming months and years -- will Shoes words come back and haunt him - <b>Calacanis style</b>?
Hmm...There are plenty of folks who have not dug in and read your original piece but, did read the question you posed. A list of experts come to mind and we are led to think that 95% of them arent really experts at all. You might not agree with my sample but, IMHO here are 20 SEO Experts that come to mind:Adam AudetteChris BoggsGreg BoserJim BoykinBruce ClayRand FishkinSimon HeseltineBill HuntDetlev JohnsonAnne KennedyTodd MalicoatDave NaylorChris ShermanMarshall SimmondsBarry SchwartzBill SlawskiDanny SullivanTodd TheisenAaron WallJill WhalenFrom our perspective this question is as clear as the one posed above:"Which 19 are not experts, and who is the real deal?":-)Mark(P.S. I have respect for you and everyone on this list but, with all the work there is to do, I dont understand how this help us. Jeremy, can you enlighten me?)(P.S.S. Many other SEO experts came to mind but, to make the math work we had to stop at 20. Please forgive us if you are an SEO expert that is not listed above :-)
People actually listen to those radio shows? Now THEREs news...
Arent 95% of all professionals in any market crap compared to the 5% who arent?Great link bait though - calling any industry with ties to social media "crap" seems to results in lots of links, lots of chatter, and inevitiably some fool who doesnt know its a game taking it seriously.
It would be interesting to know who he had in mind .I think if hed said 95% of so-called SEOs it would have raised a vague nod, but 95% of SEO experts means 95% of the 5% of SEOs that everyone generally agrees are any good, arent.Which just seems silly.I hate arguments that depend on the exact interpretation of the adjectives.
@leadegroo, exactly why I probably wont listen. All the things Shoe mentioned for reasons were practices by non"experts," so there really isnt anything he can say with substance at this point. However, @IncrediBILL, I used to listen to DailySearch Cast religiously, until a short time ago (conflicts in scheduling). It was kinda like my CNN. Just tune in, and get some work done. I wish I could get some more quiet time to listen in again. I miss it a lot. @Jill, youre right. He didnt offend any real SEOs. What he did was make a blanket statement that will be interpreted by a large group of people that dont know any better. They dont know it was bait, or that the statements he made were poop. But now they will follow, and remember that the all mighty Shoemoney said SEOs were bad. I see 2 results from this. Those people will go into a group of people that SEOs who provide a decent service will have to combat in the future, however indirectly. And second, they will be the same peopl lagging behind the website owners that found themselves a good SEO. Either way, Halfdeck put it best. This is taking too much of the time that could be spent more constructively. Unless Rand or Danny get the spot to rebut (maybe Ill sign up but I doubt hell take on a no name), I probably wont listen in.
Hey Shoe, whats the deal with "shoemoney" and "mikelowery" commenting as you in the first person in the thread above(http://sphinn.com/story.php?id=23877#c27299 and http://sphinn.com/story.php?id=23877#c27334 )? Two different profiles?
Burgo, that is weird. Isnt that strictly forbidden in the Sphinn TOS? If so, please make an exception just this once. I cant imagine the amount of linkbait that would turn into.
@Burgo: Good observation.100% of mikelowerys submissions were from shoemoney.com as well.annddd anything having to do with shoemoney that I can recall appearing was sphunn by him. Including my recent one?hmmm.
Heh. I guess "Bad Boys, Bad Boys" might be a pretty apt tune... :P
Jerry Springer marketing at its best...Thanks Jill, glad you noticed, shows we are doing something right. Not sure if where in the 5% but do agree the majority are pretty poor
But Jull, we have a problem with semantics here. What Shoe said was that "SEO Experts" were the bad ones. Not "people that think they know SEO," or "people that claim to be SEOs." Nope, "SEO experts."Wont tell you what he or she will be doing?Probably not an SEO?Making guarantees? Probably not an SEO.Selling submissions? Probably not an SEO?So its not SEOs that you know provide a poor service, its people who dont know SEO and claiming to. Sigh....Must....let....this...go. Cant...resist....bait...
Told Shoe Ill do the show. Will be interesting to see how he wants to back up his figures. Bad folks and bad rep in the industry, sure. Calculated down to an exact percentage? Nope.
"Told Shoe Ill do the show."Too bad I lost sound when I installed Vista. Otherwise Id tune in.
@ Danny, Jill, Halfdeck, Oilman ... check out this theory called the Dunning-Kruger Effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning-Kruger_effect?). In its most simple form its defined as:the phenomenon wherein people who have little knowledge think that they know more than others who have much more knowledge.Maybe his premise will rest on this effect. Then again, maybe as mentioned above ... its just plain ole Jerry Springer marketing. I tend to think the latter.
