Where's that desphinn button when you need it?!
This is the sort of remedial stuff that should go without saying - to make it a frontpage story kinda makes Sphinn look daft: "A SEO community, by people who don't know SEO"?
Brian ... while I appreciate your opinion, I would also argue there are a large number of people on sphinn that are new to SEO. To those people, something like this "Back to the Basics" series might be something of a revelation. Not everyone will be at your level of understanding.
"I would also argue there are a large number of people on sphinn that are new to SEO."
If we had an SEO 101 category, we probably won't have this problem. I understand where Brian is coming from; I also see how an article like this can be useful.
Maybe Sphinn can personalize results so advanced SEOs aren't exposed to stuff they already know.
BTW, Ruud did a good job of keeping his article short.
iBrian: Maybe I'm mistaken in believeing that more people frequent Sphinn than just persons already knowledgeable in SEO?
Isn't Sphinn also a destination for those who are soley based on Social Media/Networking that may or may not know SEO at all?
Isn't it also for anyone desiring to learn? Or are we satisfied with limiting Sphinn traffic to those who have nothing 'new' to bring to the table of diversity? Todays Newbs are tomorrow's Experts, professionals, and your affiliates/promoters.
Maybe there's an inability to allow newbs to have something to chew on, cause if they play catch-up with the big pups..does that interefere with the Big pups job security? Or could it possibly enhance a Big Pups traffic and promotion? Experience will always grow for the established one..speaking for itself I think.
Sphinn is for search and interactive marketers..Not just for seaoned SEO/M's
Good job Ruud - your illustration makes it nice and easy to understand a fundamental idea.
The start of what should be a really useful series for beginners.
@iBrian - Sorry to hear you feel that way. Maybe despite its basic character the post has merit based on it being clear and concise? :) Not taking your comment personal btw.
@Halfdeck - this is what I was talking about the other day. After deleting and rewriting (and rinse & repaat) this post was so short I was unsure I shouldn't fluff it up. I'm happy I didn't. Your comment in the other thread has been a booster this weekend!
@baiduyou - Very pleased you not only like it but found it easy to understand. And yes, I hope to not disappoint you in the remainder of the series :)
Disagreements are fair comment. :)
I was tempted to argue my point - but realised I was in the sort of general razzed mood that invites anger and regret on my part.
The bottom line is that indeed Sphinn is a community for people at all levels, accepting interests from all areas.
I would have just preferred to see more justification in the original item - a basic argument - rather than what was really a simple statement that while true to a point, is overly simplified.
I agree there should be an SEO 101 category! good idea!
Here's the thing for me on this...
Ruud, your article definitely earns merit for its clear and concise content. I particularly admire your choice of words/phrases and the simple illustrations. However, I don't think this article provides enough meat to be worthy of the trip over...even for a newbie.
To extend the information without bulking up the content, adding a menu of links to more info on anchor text issues would have added value. I would have also liked to have a taste of the next article in the series for dessert.
Hmmm...now I'm hungry.
