Shoemoney has promoted offers even he calls a "scam" (repeatedly), copied linkbait from others, and much more.
And yet he calls SEOs slimy.
I don't normally give into flamebait, and don't normally like to call people out on such things, but I made an exception.

SSS do a search for seo companies in various local areas around the US (and I suspect the whole world). Take a quick look at their websites and what they *think* SEO is all about.

What you find may make you agree that 95% of SEOs are indeed slimey.

It always kills me when SEOs get all up in arms when they're told that the bulk of them are slimey.  It's because they actually are.  And so are the bulk of used car salesmen.  That doesn't mean ALL SEOs are, or that all used car salesmen suck either, for that matter.  (Same thing about lawyers and a million other professions.

There's always only a small percentage in any industry who truly get it. That's why they get the big bucks while the sucky ones languish in obscurity.

If someone wants to call SEOs slimy, while I disagree, I can't necessarilly get up-in-arms about it.

My problem is largely that someone from the Make Money Online niche is doing it.
Those guys are dirty as they come.

Well, this conversation on DP on how to make $10K/day has been one of my favorite Shoe posts.

That post tells people how to convince others to pay for a dating service using fake profiles, basically products that don't exist, which is actually false advertising and a crime!

Needless to say, this little flap pales by comparison IMO.

Then why say you respect him in your post? Do you or don't you? Cuz it sure sounds like you don't. (Which makes no difference to me, but your post is pretty ambiguous because of that.)

I respect him as far as MMO writers go. I respect his ability to make money and to market. I do not respect his niche.
It's a cloudy line, I'll admit. I have very mixed feelings about shoemoney and his blog.
However, having written that line, I feel like a pre-teen girl, so I will get a little less specific. Heh.
Respect is an odd thing for me, as I'm [obviously] not the most ethical SEO on the planet. I can even on some level respect people who do bad things. Or perhaps, respect their ability to do it?
As I said, quite cloudy in my head. Go with what you think I was saying in the entry, and you're probably right.

SSS, you are correct when you say that the "make money online" niche is dip-shit and some one from that niche cannot be talking about the "majority of SEOs being slimy".

But, facts are facts - Im from the eastern part of the world where you have the dumbest people who do SEO and also the most unethical firms you would have ever seen.

I'd say any one would talk about "SEO firms being crap" once they saw what majority of the firms did.

Heck, I get 35 emails a day saying "Hi, im not a bot - exchange links with me"

Peace.

I think i get what shady is saying. I also don't have a problem what Shoe does. Au contraire, he is making the dough and has all the respect for it. But in the same way I am sure he does not want to be tarred as being "just another affiliate marketing slime", because he is not, he should beware of tarring the "95% of SEO industry".

Another point: anyone can put up a wordpress site and call himself an SEO service and promise submissions to 10 trillion search engines. Does that mean that 95% of SEOs are scumbags ? If the answer is yes, I am opening a medical site, offering a cure for AIDS, cancer and Ebola. Maybe I'll succeed in ruining them doctors' reputation.

In other words - Shoe, you are a great affiliate marketer and money maker. What you said about SEO industry is crap. There is no flip-flopping about that. There are a lot of great people that the moment they venture outside of their comfort zone, start talking shite. James Watson, the DNA double helix structure discoverer is one example.

Bah, boring.. Every industry has it's "95%".. Used Cars, New Cars, Jewelry (a topic I know well), SEO, Web Developers, Restaurants, etc etc etc.. They ALL have their 95% suck mentality and they all think that they are in the 5% when they say it.. But I bet they also all have at least one customer or associate thanks they are in the 95%..

I just read them for the humor and move on.. Too much effort is wasted on arguing the whole I'm better thing..

@shoemoney: I can like you, and think it's bullshit you go after SEOs given your niche. But I can see through it for the marketing attempt it is. Seriously, given how much pull you have in different areas, did you have to flamebait to get your radio show some decent notice?

It's a cheap shot (cheap as in inexpensive... virtually no risk to making the claim). The resulting "controversy" is the payoff... even if there isn't one, a single complaint can be called a controversy and thus satisfy his need for content for his radio show. Oh... and let's see an SEO step up to the plate and "represent SEOs" (to get a resume item "appearance on Shoemoney radio show on SEO". Really... yawn.

Big News: Shoemoney is an opportunist.

By the way, didn't Shoemoney start out calling Markus Frind (pletyoffish) a liar and riding that "sh*tstorm" of controversy?

Don't feed the trolls haha.

Don't feed the trolls haha.

You gotta love Sphinn. Bunch of wicked smart, can't pull the wool over our eyes marketers who would surely spot inflame-a-bait when they see it and run like hell in the opposite direction so as not to encourage the practice. Right? Wrong.

Even though several commenters spotted the bait - look how many Sphinns have been cast. Then again, did anyone actually read the article. Hell, I bet 95% of the Sphinners didn't get past the SSS avatar before they Sphunn! Oh sh%t, did I say 95%? I better upgrade my server to handle the traffic! ;) Please don't write an article about me saying that! (That's called the takeaway!) ;)

P.S. I prey every night that God will turn me into the sleazy, slimy, opportunistic internet marketer that Shoemoney is. Maybe that's it. Maybe Shady has Shoenis envy?! ;)

P.P.S. SSS - didn't you recently agree that there are about 1 Billion Scraper/Spammer/SEO whatever you wanna call em types over in India? Let's see, 1 Billion @ 95% slimy - that would leave room for 5 million reputable SEO's. Yup, I'd say 95% is a generous figure!

Sorry Sean but there are many of us who choose every day not to be "...the sleazy, slimy, opportunistic internet marketer..."  It really is a conscious choice, often requiring concious effort given theworld we live in and the cost of living in it.
