I guess one point was missed in that post.Do not blatantly spam links to your posts on twitter - That way, your going to end up having no followers.Follow some other useful resources and using tinyurl instead of the longer urls is also a good move.
i thought nick covered that point!
@organicapex/Kelvin Thanks for the Sphinn. Yep I addressed that in point 4 I thought (Promote Your Material Responsibility) Twitter converts URLs into TinyURL by default, but as you have probably seen, making them tiny yourself means you can add more characters to your message. Interesting though that URLs under X length are left in original form, so i guess you could get a textlink in there if it was short enough (although they are nofollowed)
Whoops my bad..Lack of sleep getting onto me..
@organicapex no problem - have a coffee on me! :)
Hmmm. I was going to install Twhirl but then saw it needed Adobe Air which is only a Beta version and has a timeout which disables it on 2008-11-28.
@g1smd Yes, I noticed that too. All the beta versions have a timeout on them to force people to update. Makes sense rather than supporting so many versions I guess.
Solid tips. I used TwitBox but last week switched over to Twhirl. Cant recommend it enough.Twhirls opacity can be set in the settings. This too helps to keep it unobtrusive. I have the window almost completely transparent on my desktop and throw a glance at it every now and then.
Ive been using Twhirl lately as well (hat tip Tamar) and it works well. Keeps me updated without completely interrupting work.
What this post lacks is How do we get people to actually follow us on Twitter in niches where people have never heard of Twitter. Whats in it for them? This product is just way over hyped IMO.
@Gamermk Thats a good question. My answer would be, you cant. Twitter users at the moment are limited to tech and early adopters. We had a explosion of internet marketers onto the system last week which has already changed the environment. I dont expect the mainstream to pick up Twitter (or something similar) for a while. The value for me is in three key areas at the moment:1) Networking 2) Information - peoples observations, news and real time link drops2) Support - obtaining votes on social media submissions or feedback In the future, who knows? As a form of mobile marketing, this could be amazing. As you suggest though, where we go next all depends on adoption.
I dont think Im a good Twitter user and still trying to figure things out. Thank you.
Thanks Nick. Im one of the masses that became active last week and still finding my way around. I appreciate the tips.
