I deliberately refrained from displaying the feed count in order to determine how many people will subscribe even though there is a lack of input from other information consumers. I didn’t guest post, advertise or provide incentives because I wanted to get a very rough estimation of a loyal and ‘real’ feed audience.

The reason - high signal to noise ratio - is most applicable here.  Congratulations, DoshDosh.

Not to rain on the parade, but aren't FeedBurner stats still reading high due to FeedBlitz mis-reporting or has this issue been solved?

They should probably double that within 3 months....

@gamermk either way those numbers are impressive. Besides, hes at 10,891 right now so I'm sure that even with the juice he hit the 10K at least

@jstein: Actually don't be surprised if he's well below 10k. The issue is definitely not a small one at all. On the 18th Problogger posted this: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/01/18/the-day-feedburner-stats-went-crazy/

He mentions jumping from 39,000 to 41,000 to 100,000 subscribers within days. Don't get me wrong DoshDosh has a fantastic site and is definitely worthy of acclaimation, but the reality is that as much as half of those subscribers could be fake.

Gamermk. Wow, if you really want to be a wet blanket. I don't know what's your problem.

Here is a screenshot of my stats on the 9th of January. I broke 10K on Jan 9th and if you look at my stats, I never had a huge jump like Problogger or other sites. I'm not an amateur and certainly wouldn't broadcast something like this without any certainty.

Gamermk, that's a pretty low blow given that Dosh Dosh has definitely earned his subscriber numbers and his numbers are by far from fabricated.

I remember reading a comment on his blog not long ago that Dosh Dosh had just achieved over 9000 subcribers. This was well before "the day Feedburner stats went crazy." Do you think it was a Feedburner bug then too?

Instead of attacking him for his success, perhaps you can be a member of the community and congratulate him. I know that this is a well-deserved honor and I'm glad to have contributed to it.

I already tweeted at you but you missed it! A big congratulations to you doshdosh. I'm learning a LOT by following you around and I appreciate all you do ;)

Btw, if you don't already follow doshdosh on twitter... what are you waitin' for??

@Dosh:
My apolgizes. In my haste, I definitely picked the wrong place to discuss the FeedBlitz issue, chose my words poorly and didn't give you the credit you deserved. If I could could down vote my own previous comments, I would.

While I realize it's likely too late, you do have my congratulations and I have been a subscriber of your work for some time. Please don't let my foolishness ruin what is a great accomplishment.

"Gamermk, that's a pretty low blow given that Dosh Dosh has definitely earned his subscriber numbers and his numbers are by far from fabricated."

Hey guys, I really don't think Gamerk meant to come across as saying the numbers were "fabricated". Rather that there may be a problem with the reporting of those numbers (which there wasn't, but still, I think that's what he was saying).

Let's perhaps give the benefit of the doubt here, and not think that he was "attacking [DD] for his success", but rather questioning the reporting of the numbers.

Now... back to celebrating a great success story! :)

Dosh. I have to give you credit here. That's absolutely incredible. Very few single bloggers hit that amount, and you've done it damn fast. congrats.
