I haven't used Google Toolbar and subsequently the toolbar PageRank score in 2 years. Good riddance.

They usually as for feedback but then don't take part in any of the discussion and you never know if they even read it, but oh well, ho-hum, it's at least an effort. Seems to be the modus operandi for Adam on WMW/GWHG and Matt on his own blog. Still sphunn it though.

Given that providing relevant URLs for a keyword search is so much more than a matter of PageRank, I think it is wrong to divert so much webmaster effort on to the Toolbar PageRank, which is itself a very inaccurate indicator of the underlying PageRank. Bury the thermometer and use the opportunity to educate webmasters on what really needs to be done to make their websites perform.

I think Google Page rank has no importance for most of the webmasters but some of clients are giving Page Rank a importance in sense of Quality of Website.... :)

toprank - if you don't use it why are you bothered either way? Most products/services need aspects that create dialogue and conversation - seo is no different. I know peolpe who want to take out TPR because they know it's not accurate. But if we didn't have it there would be more people out there without any knowledge of PageRank which would add another aspect of seo we'd have to explain to clients.

Bottom line - keep it; what other reason could we have for a pretty green bar in the top of Firefox!

Gids, you make an interesting point about having to explain what PR is to those who are unfamiliar with SEO. I have to disagree a bit though. The problem with TBPR is that too many non-SEO people believe it is more important than it actually is so you have to tell them what they believed is wrong and then explain everything else to them anyway. I don't really care whether it is removed or not but I think removing it would clear up some confusion (especially among those people who are totally confused as to why there PR 4 site is being beat out by a PR 2 site).

What's the big deal - leave it.

If someone over emphasizes it so be it.

SEO folks use a myriad of tools, gauges, techniques, reports, etc. in an effort to determine the SEO health of a website.

Off as it may be, the TBPR is simply one small piece is a very large and complicated puzzle.

Is it accurate – likely not.

Is it an indicator – likely yes.

Kinda like wetting your finger and holding it in the wind to determine direction.

Not too precise but gives an indication.

Accuracy it is not – but a clue it is.

Clues are not the whole story and often are not completely valid facts especially taken on their own.

As someone else mentioned – leave the cute little green bar alone.

What I don't get is why this piece has already received 20 Sphinns. After all, it's just a short blog entry that links to a discussion going on somewhere else and posts a few quotes. Yes, the discussion is of interest, but shouldn't the actual discussion receive the Sphinns, not a paragraph that points to a discussion elsewhere? Even the destination of the one link on the page that points to rustybrick's Should Google Hide the Toolbar PageRank Score post seems to me like a post that would have been more worthy of Sphinning - at least it states an opinion.

I think Google pagerank could be very useful. If it's not accurate, then Google should work on making it accurate.
