From the post: Keynotes should be from people who should be respected - how does calling SEO Bullshit, dropping the F bomb numerous times, claiming that he's the greatest SEO there is - garner you respect?

he got you to post publicizing him didn't he ... I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere ;-)

Hmm... yeah, but Chris Crocker, Britany Spears and Rosie ODonnell all get a lot of attention too. Doesn't mean we could/should derive any kind of positive lesson from them.

As my currently moderated comment on the original post said, Matt Bailey has it right in his comment.

I don't know anything about the guy other than being in the audience when he gave his first keynote where he spoke against SEO to the industry.  Maybe he has a different attitude, maybe not but I wouldn't shell out $3000 plus travel expenses to be put down or scolded by a keynote speaker.  Admittedly, my expectations for keynote speakers may be different but I'd gladly pay for inspiration rather than a shakeup.

This is certainly a dissapointing decision. The only rationale I can conceive is that SES isn't particularly interested in attracting the more hardcore and plugged-in SEO crowd, instead focusing on those who get their tech news from the NYTimes. It's not neccessarily a dumb move, though, just one that saddens me as SES used to be something very different.

It will certainly be amusing, if nothing else.

I think as SEO's we can learn a lot from Jason Calacanis. He is a smart guy and we can learn a lot from his Prespective. Even thou, Jason has argued so much about SEO. He knows the value of search. I might not say that Mahola is an invention but Mahola became popular in a very short period of time. He sure has some good ideas and knows how to implement those
Just my 2 cents :)

Maybe Jason simply comes really cheap? He's also keynoting at Affiliate Summit next month. Those guys are all about making money, so actually, maybe Jason pays to appear?

I know Jason is getting all the attention right now - that said, don't forget the other Keynotes: Nick Carr, Gordon McLeod (who will be speaking about how Search changed everything for the Wall St Journal) and Andrew Tomkins (Yahoo!'s Chief Scientist)... this is going to be a good event, one you will not want to miss.  Look for other major names TBA soon...

Matt, is John Battelle the other major name not posted? I saw you blogged he'd be at NY, but I didn't see any further keynote slots TBA or that he was posted on the agenda.
