Would be great if their site loaded... :)
Sorry about that - we're back up now, just a touch slow. We had an IP address from France hammering our tools and several thousand simultaneous connections to the survey at launch. Next time we'll do a bit better planning. Really thrilled that this is going to be so popular, though!
Sick quiz Rand and crew really cool data to find out.
Sorry about that - we're back up now, just a touch slow.
A touch? It took me over half an hour just to reach Q32 :P
Really? Half an hour?! OK, I'm going to dig in and see if we can figure out what's going on - there appears to be a bit of inconsistency with the server. It's loading quick for me here in Seattle, but I'm worried about global load times. Luckily, we're about to switch to a load balancing system with a server on both the west coast and east coast (probably 60 days away).
Ditto on ridiculous load time. In the future it might be better to have a "soft release" to counteract any issues. As someone with a busy schedule, but lots of respect for SEOmoz I wanted to take the quiz, but got so frustrated that I abandoned it and probably won't have time or the memory to attempt it again.
Just completed the survey. Figured it would be faster after you all went to bed. :)
I think that there was a soft release Rhea, I tried to complete the survey on the train into work a few weeks back but ran out of time/track. Would be cool to be able to save your answers and come back later :o)
@planetc1: you bet! 6 a.m. and the pages fly! :)
Completed it (I think) but after the last question, moved into Ajax loading mode but wouldn't refresh saying was completed. Figure all data saved anyway, as a browser refresh went back to square one (please, everybody, Ajaz is not that great for users!).
Reasonable questions for a snapshot, but a little clunky in places - for example, asking how many employed made no distinction between company employees and freelancers employed, plus sometimes the director/CEO was counted as an employee, but on the following question did not appear to be. Also, past work history - well, past few years have been a CEO - but then the question following seemed to imply that looking at work experience before became CEO, not just what I'd been doing for the past few years.
I guess that's an overall issue with questionnaires, that there will also be a sense of the generic and lack of clarity as to how some people will read some questions.
Overall, interesting - but all the time I was filling it in, I kept wondering what the actual purpose was. A snapshot of the SEO industry - sure - but it seemed focused on demographics and structure, and it was only in the last few questions that it seemed to be moving into interesting territory outside of a standard set of application form answers.
Not intended as a criticism of the survey, as much as niggles that came to mind.
Hopefully some of the overall results will be interesting. :)
@evilgreenmonkey - well, aren't you special. ;-)
I haven't taken the survey yet... "SEO industry survey" doesn't tell me enough about why I should bother answering 51 questions and spend 15 minutes doing so.
@evilgreenmonkey -
PS: that headline isn't spammy? Seems like something an editor should, umm, edit.
