Yep, a standard is in the formation process and the big guys are on the boat, the big G, Facebook, Plaxo and even Microsoft.

The 'standard' is by the 'big guys', 'for the big guys'. Read the charter carefully: 'they' own 'our' data, we just get to say where it moves (sort of) and which others of 'us' are allowed what access.

The gentleman who founded this 'organisation' looks to have a definite marketing reason for the inititive - this is not the first non-profit he has founded to advance his business model. Indeed they follow in such an orderly sequence one might consider it a planned campaign.

It will be interesting watching each corporate data mining entity maneuver to access more than they provide. It really has very little to do with us and our data and much to do with them and their data and how best to share amongst themselves. So it may well go nowhere.

But watching them each slap each others grasping hands should be entertaining.
