I've enjoyed the content of this site in this post and other posts in the past... but that header is huge! and it makes the content bordeline spam despite the usefuless of the words. The first word of the blog post is below the fold!
Not sure how that relates to the topic, but Thanks for the feedback Tim...from this point forward all single posts are now above the fold with the header removed.
godaddy is so bad. i'm glad more people are finding out, but unfortunately, they're not finding out the easy way.
@SeoDesignSolutions - hi, well my comment wasn't related this topic directly, but nor would it have been related to any of the previous submissions of your blog that I voted positively for here at Sphinn either. RE this post and topic: I thank you for sharing it. I believe we've all had the same experience with many hosts. To provide a contrary perspective: I have used Godaddy for a few months on a few sites and have not experienced this problem.
Ideally, I recommend self or dedicated-server hosting when possible. The cost of such is really insignifant... just buy/rent a server and find a good colocation facility and you won't get hit with these issues. At the same time renting out part of your server to clients or friends can provide nice revenue to support the cost and even profit from.
Too often people complain about hosting companies without bothering to try to do anything about it. Pooling clients rather than selecting a big domain registrar to do your hosting is the best way to go.

In particular in this incident, they were performing a simple server migration (ffromon dedicated server to another with greater bandwidth) and whoever the tech was failed to use protocol such as testing a server before pushing it live. The cnames and all were ported, the dns resolved, the just neglected the data/content portion.
Aside from that, the main concern was, it appeared as a malicious attack from the method, turns out it was them that dropped the ball. I had experienced noteworthy service in the past, from a hosting prospective of uptime, but they customer service and management protocols they have in place are just plain archaic. If anything get's escalated beyond the general tech level, it's off to the wizard "advanced hosting team" who is really drinking their own kool aid.
Aside from that, they still flubbed the install and I had to check them 3 times eo ensure that all of the left hands, knew what the right was doing (argh). Most people would have been down for 3 minutes, our site 3 days, truly pathetic customer service, which was really the rant.
I think most experienced webmasters learn at one point or other to separate hosting and domain registration to different services. Domain registrars are domain registrars, and webhosts are webhosts.
I second the comment from iBrian. Keep the peanut butter separate from the jelly.
I would definitely be taking my hosting business elsewhere. There are plenty that can do it better for cheaper than GoDaddy.

As far as comprable hosts (meaning shared, low cost),I have found HostGator to be nearly flawless and they allow you to host multiple sites on one account. I have on account there with roughly 15 sites (small brochure type sites that don't take lots of space of bandwidth)
I have been hearing great things about Host Gator, I think that is the next choice. Reliability is the main factor in this instance, but thanks Oldschool.
