Wherein Darren Browse learns from Seth Godin that he doesn't use Twitter at all and informs 1400+ fans of the fake Seth they've been fooled.

If I were Seth I would request that account be removed from Twitter. That's pretty scary.

Only JC would use that wallpaper Barry ;)

Maybe he would have a case for removal. Still, personal names aren't protected. Identity theft is illegal but registering a name on a social network and *not* claiming this is that person..... Not sure. THink in the end you're at the mercy of the site's ToS and willingness to do something.

I don't know, Ruud.  People's names, especially when they're branded such as Seth's are their trademark (regardless of whether they file for an actual trademark).  At least that's my understanding of it.

Ironically, when Seth's Squidoo was fairly new, I went to register HighRankings as a Lense and someone else had already registered it.  I contacted Seth to have the other person give it up, as I actually do have High Rankings as a registered trademark.  The other person had basically just registered up a ton of SEO related terms and never answered Squidoo back when they contacted him, so they eventually allowed me to register that lense.

You're not allowed to impersonate someone else -- but you're allowed to carry a name or alias that exists elsewhere.

Imagine Jill Whalen the writer forcing you to give up your Facebook or Flickr registration ;)

You know, Ruud, someone could totally score Darren Browse, as it's still available! ;)

Considering the article is on his site, it's rather foolish he didn't get his own name. It somewhat devalues the entire article in a way.

Do what I say, but not what I do?

Shows why it's important to secure your name/handle at every major social media site (plus purchase your name as a dot com domain if available).

How many people in the world are called "Neil Patel"? I assume more than one is involved in search!

@Bwelford: I don't think it matters. Really, could the a fake Jason put out anything less accurate or more foolish sounding than the real one? His reputation could only improve.
