Sure there are experts, but there are also some very well known names that say things that can be easily researched and found to be untrue. So, self-learning is important, as is validating anything you read before relying on it. Even then, keep an eye out for changes in the future.
It really is funny how many people proclaim to be an "SEO expert". I truly think that it is very difficult for anyone to actually be an expert at SEO when the industry is forever changing. I actually own an SEO consulting and training company, but would never say that I am an SEO expert. I am very proficient in SEO techniques - but not all techniques will work for all websites. In my opinion, search engine optimization is all about finding the right keyword phrases that will attract your target audience. The only real way to do this is via tiral and error; closely examining web analytics data; staying current with industry trends - and did I mention trial and error. Self-proclaimed "SEO Experts" are like "Posers" of the 80s. They pretend to have what they want to have, but in reality they dont have what it takes.
We are all just blind men touching the elephant when it comes to SEO.
I hate to call myself a SEO Expert - I do a lot of organic work for our clients and I know quite a bit - but there is always more to learn, more to know - and things change - A LOT.I think people need to be measured by their results - and not necessarily the witty title that follows at the end of their emails :)Regards,Carrie HillSEO Non-Expert :)
Dont listen to Michael Martinez. Hes had a lot of success in his lifetime, but when it comes to truly understanding SEO, he might be the blindest blind man touching the most misdirected elephant. To say that there are no SEO experts is irresponsible at best. But then again, who cares what he thinks. Hes not landing us any accounts or helping optimize our proprietary sites.
