Many people jump into social media marketing because they feel they "should be doing it". Many times companies don't take the time to identify their goals and why they want to engage in a campaign. Identifying and measuring social media metrics can be easy and inexpensive. Here are some simple things to keep in mind and free ways to track them.

Great advice from Chris Winfield. This year I've started to seperate types of traffic to better measure and target goals. This post will come in handy.

Good breakdown Chris. I would also add new RSS and/or email subscribers to the mix as another useful metric to apply.

@planetc1 - great to hear :)

@adam - Great feedback.  I was trying to keep the list simple and something that should be used as a starting point for tracking what your linkbait pieces.  There are so many more metrics that can and should be tracked and RSS/email subs/send this pages/etc are certainly important to measure.
