In a way, it reminded me my first SES event I attended in Munich back in 2002 – Small, cozy – and most important – Getting the local industry together in one place, for the first time ever.

Great summary ophirc, congrats on what seemed to be a great event :)
Absolutely!
Good networking, interesting new faces, great (hot) chocolate cake. :)
SphinnCon Israel was good to refresh the local SEO, SEM, SMO events.
Thanks for the great write-up Ophir and well-done to Barry for what looks like a very successfull event!
well i've been there and the only thing i can tell is that peoples were talking about they're own products.. I still havent learn anything new in the meeting..
Sidney, my colleague Branko Rihtman talked about paid links we don't sell. I believe you could have learned something new.
Everyone knew about paid link even before this meeting, i were expecting maybe more than that..
Sydney, if you're looking for something that will really surprise you, I can safely recommend my own quite controversial analysis of SEO, scattered as comments in this forum, in http://sphinn.com/story/18731 and, if you read Hebrew, also in http://forums.k.co.il/search.asp?KW=%F2%EE%F0%E5%E0%EC&SM=1&SI=AR&FM=0&OB=1.
But then you would say that I'm talking about my own products...
sydney,
So you are saying you wanted more than what we offered for the $50 you paid? What more did you expect? I am asking, so we can make a better show for you next year...
Hi Sidney,
I saw your comments and I feel I must add something here.
Following your tone of writing, you are probably not a beginner , therefore you are aware of the happenings and the things people asked about.
Going to conferences abroad for many years, my friends and colleagues always ask me afterwards "what have you learned?".
I think this is the wrong question. I think that for the more experienced professionals - sessions as SphinnCon are more about re-visiting theories and methds you alrweady know with peers, and a lot of networking.
In our business, the nature is that most SEO's work almost alone - as consultants, as in house teams or as enterpreneurs/affiliates etc. Not a lot of us, especially in a small industry like we have in Israel have the privilage of speaking, consulting and debating issues with professionals, on ongoing basis.
Events such as SphinnCon gathers us all in one place at a given time, and offers us the opportunity to meet, talk to eachother and discuss the latest issues.
I can personally tell you, that after more than 8 years experience in various verticals of SEO and web marketing in general, I can definitely say that I gained professional value from the meetings, not to mention the networking values.
That being said, this was the first SphinnCon ("Evar"....) and of course there is always room to improve... I am sure that by the next event Barry et al will have much more past data to analyze, in order to ake the next event a full blown SMX.
I was at the conference too and it's true we didn't learn much. However, I did gain an better understanding of the SEO market in Israel (which in iteself was well wort the $50) and on top of that the networking alone was invaluable. Israel lacks great networking groups and jsut to be able to attend this event and meet the people that are day to day involved in it (as well as those that started it here) was a huge lesson.
Apart from one of the speakers, I didn't notice anyone trying to sell their services. It was mostly just answering questions that people had and that's all.
Third Door put on a great event and I personally can't wait for next year. Hopefully, I'll be on a panel then :-)
You are right, for 50$ it was ok.... was nice to meet some of you there...
I just hope that next time we'll be able to talk about new seo strategies and longer...
Why does everyone here mention those ridiculous $50 as if it was their last money on earth? And Sydney, none will disclose to you his new and well-working SEO strategies next time either, as Ophir Cohen tried to tell you above.
