Maybe, I'm weird but I liked Tim's site.

I also think search engines shaped the web.  If not for search I think the web would all be photoshopped images and flash and HTML would be thought of the code needed to insert those things.

I admit, poking fun at Tim Berners-Lee may not be a good career move :) I do appreciate the value of simple, direct sites, but I also think good design has had a huge and positive impact on the web, and even on usability.
