I have just returned from my native England and all the comments are spot on.  One example when England are playing Football (it’s not called soocer ;) ) the Scots will not hope we win - BUT when Scotland are playing we want them to win which is really weird - Some say this island race which is very true.I almost set up a small agency in the West of England when I was over there but found it difficult going explaining what I do - odd as the original computer was built in England and Tim Benners Lee founded the www....

Shari is spot on with these observations, great to see articles that step outside the North American mindset for a moment.

It’s often amusing to be fluent at both American and British English and to note the differences in the way people write. Definitely a nice post by Shari.

And that not only hapens with pages written in english. It also hapens in spanish written websites. Of course spanish is spanish, but from country to country certain words mean different things, so usually content writers are very careful. And also Latinos are major Xenophobes amongst themselves, for example it’s an insult for an argentinian to be considered to be the same or think the same as a mexican or a chilean...probably has something to do with soccer, huh? Hahahaha.

I read this article with great interest. I would love to see more SEO articles that are non US oriented. I am a Greek and in Greece we need to SEO our websites for the Greek language, the English language (which is practically our second language) and for Greeklish. Greeklish is the Greek language written with English characters. It is an amalgamation of the 2 languages. The need for this was raised in the early days of computers, the internet and mobile (or cell) phones, when Greek characters weren’t supported. Greeklish has become a standard now in written language and hasn’t got any spelling rules. For example the word DOG in Greek is ΣΚΥΛΟΣ and in Greeklish it can be SKYLOS or SKILOS. A Greek will understand it either way and will use it as a search term either way.
