Have to admit ... I kinda shocked I'm not getting any disagreements or discussion here. Dave (TheGypsy) ... what say you? I know you disagree to some extent.
well like we were chatting about that we're sliding from SEO into branding... once in branding there is the time/resources factor. As we know in the blog-o-sphere being an authority or an influencer certainly has its place. People will more readily link to a percieved authority site which does cross over.
As always, I look at some markets or budgets and establishing true authority or to a lesser degree implied could be problematic. Am I building authority via SEO... certainly. Dominating the SERPs would obviously create an implied authority to the end user... would I focus a campaign on building authority? naw.... best left to the SMM department....
You're an authority...why would we disagree?
@ Dave ... look at people like Maki, Rand, and Darren Rowse. They all started from relatively humble beginnings, but were committed to making it happen, and did. They've greatly surpassed (in terms of recognition, trust, etc.) many many companies much larger than they were by adhering to this strategy.
Guess its all about commitment and to some extent, means.
Sure dood... but relation to SEO is a thin line IMO. It really starts to fall into branding and brand managment. As I have said ona few occasions, while related, are best treated as independant disciplines :0)
The idea here is right on, whether doing graphics or coding or seo it is all branding and marketing.
Though I am at the beginning stages of this venture, thanks to a severe disability that took me from my first business, I am not knew to the concepts you have shared. Those very concepts are how every small busioness is built. Not by doing a job or a task, but by building a reputation,
Great article, Thanks
@ Todd ... thanks!
@ rockyman ... thanks! Can you see any exceptions?
