There have been a lot of talk about Matt leaving Google. But I have not
noticed anyone predicting Matts next destination or when would that happen.
So I have spent recently little time "analyzing" the situation. And I
can see very clear indications that Matte might be leaving Google within
2008 to join Amazon.com :
- Following Matts posts on his blog and on other different places, I
have noticed him lost a portion of his passion for "Search". That shouldnt
surprise anybody. Matt has spent the last 8 years within the field of
Search. He needs now new challenges for sure.
- Mrs. Cutts has reached the point that she isnt interested in
"smelling the coffee" anymore.
"I love working at Google, but at some point my wife is going to wake up
and smell the coffee. She’ll say “Hey, we agreed we’d try this Google
thing for four or five years, and then I’d get to pick what to do next.
It’s been like eight years now! When do we move on to our next
adventure?” (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/the-real-lesson-from-this-week/)
- This is not one of the main reasons for Matt leaving Google, but a
secondary one. As you might know Google is a dog-company while Matt is a
cat person. Though Matt hasnt expressed in public his dissatisfaction
with the dog-cat situation, he did once give a clear hint:
Shoemoney asked Matt once; "When I was at the GooglePlex I read
something about Google being a dog company and that you could bring your
dog to work. What do you think of that being a cat person ? =)"
And Matt replied: "Shoemoney, cats have better things to do than to hang
out at the Googleplex."

And you might ask. Why Amazon.com?
Because Matt has been focusing on Amazon.com for sometime now. Take a
look at Matts blog, and you would see what I mean.

In addition, Matt is a Books-freak. He would have much fun in Amazon.com
for sure.

Finally.. I just wish to underline that Matt Cutts standard reply to
posts predicting he is leaving Google, is: Im very happy at Google.
Dont expect Matt to say something different this time :-)

Matt Cutts cuttlets stalker meme! bizarre but fun new hypothesis / post from Harith ... will Matt go to Seattle and follow in Vanessas footsteps? 2 Things We Know 2 Be True:1. Matt will not go to work for Zillow2. Matt will not likely search for houses on ZillowThere, that narrows down the field of possible companies Matt might work for.Which begs the question: Why would Matt work for any company? and not himself? My hunch: Matt will eventually leverage his huge fan base (keyword: cuttlets) to build his own business. Who wouldnt want to work for Matt? Plus, hell formalize his relationship with Danny and become an SEL contributing editor/columnist and continue his role as SMX superstar. Side bet: Brett will try to Pubcon him into staying on the webmaster circuit, but Matt will choose Danny.
Btw, those of you who wish to say hello to Matts two cute cats :-)SEO EMMYSpeedy Ozzie
Harith :You know Matt better.......... Amazon??? I dont think SoBut he Might have some other Plans in the future.
Suresh,As a GoogleGuy and Matt Cutts analyst specialist :-), and in addition to the reasons for Matt to leave Google to Amazon.com in 2008 which I mentioned in my current post, I can say:- Matt isnt going to work within SEARCH, otherwise he could as well stay in Google. - Matt is ACADEMIC and no entrepreneur person who would like to operate a new enterprise.- Money isnt going to be the main issue in Matts choice of next job.- Matt would chose his next job based mostly on: Passion, great challenges and fun.- I can imagine Matt very bored now at doing the same things time and time again for years within Google WebSpam Team. Therefore there is a great possibility to see Matt leaving Google to Amazon.com in 2008!
The best job for someone like Matt would be in the VC field. Hes knows enough about web trends and what works to support emerging companies. It would also be one of the few areas that wouldnt conflict with his knowledge of Google. There would be too much temptation, if he worked at Amazon, for their internal marketing teams to start asking questions ;)
I just wonder, why Matt hasnt posted yet on this thread his standard comment:Harith,Im very happy at Google. :-)
