Desphinn Feature Now Live

Once Sphinn members have been active for 7 days, a new link will appear between "Save" and "Report As Spam" on a story page. This "Desphinn" link will allow that member to give the story a negative vote, on the condition that they leave a descriptive and constructive explanation of why they have done it.
It is important to note that a Desphinn is not equal to a Sphinn, preventing abuse from the same gang-voting actions that we've seen with members Sphinning items. Before a story goes hot, only 2 Desphinns are needed in order to take 1 Sphinn off its tally.
Once the story has gone hot, 5 Desphinns are required in order to remove 1 Sphinn. This is because the story is seen as more trustworthy once it has reached enough votes to go Hot (currently 22 Sphinns).
If the number of Sphinns for any story reaches -10, the story is removed.
We've added a minimum comment length for Desphinning a story, as the action is basically giving the information a thumbs down and we think that the submitter should know why you don't like the story.
Moderators and Admins have the ability to remove Desphinns if we feel that someone is abusing the system or attacking a user. Sphinn members will be warned if they are caught doing this and banned if further abuse takes place.
This feature has been brought in to offer more power to the community, which we hope will add more balance to Sphinn. We hope this feature will prevent stories from going live if they are weak in content and information. We look forward to seeing how this new functionality is used within the community, and are of course open to any comments once it has been tried and tested in public.
I'm having trouble seeing who sphunn items since the desphinn button was added. I'm not sure if this problem is related, but I no longer can see who sphunn and now de-sphunn. Thanks. :)
I think that it's fixed now - I had the same issue although I think that the JavaScript file was just being updated. We're just too quick and eager! ;o)
Just to add folks - Please don't Desphinn this story simply to test the functionality, otherwise it won't go Hot and nobody will know about the feature!
Yes, the javascript was updated. A hard browser refresh will be required.

Looks like it is time to update the Sphinn Wordpress plugin again! :)

I'm also noticing "Fatal error:" appearing on blogs instead of the Sphinn button when a story has been submitted.

I have Fatal Errors showing on the icons on my wordpress posts. They are the ones that get created automatically for each wordpress blog I post.
I hope this isn't fatal?

All - looking into the buttons problems now. Will have the fix shortly. I recommend deactivating the plugin for the time being, esp. if it appears an all of your posts. Once the issue is resolved, I will post an update here.

What about the people who will maintain an extra account or two just to desphinn stories without having to take credit?
I can't desphinn - says my comment is too short or too long. never the right length.

Seems that I've successfully DeSphunn this topic as a test. The text box really needs to be bigger that you comment in. Also, the tab to see who DeSphunn stuff isn't working for me either.
Justilien, those with secret accounts to desphinn are balanced by those with secret accounts to sphinn :)
Seriously, since Desphinns (like Sphinn) are public, if someone's trying to do something overt, we hope that will be noticable. And you'd have to have a lot of accounts in your control to really use desphinn to knock something down.
This is great. I have been waiting for a feature like this. It's rare that I've felt the need for it, but occasionally, I've really wished there was a "deshpinn" option.
The external sphinn site buttons should be working for all now. Please let me know if you're still seeing a fatal error (or even a non-fatal error ;-)
@Danny. Sweet! Sometimes I know I should comment and I don't, mainly due to laziness. Sure would be a neat way to make sure Sphinns are well-thought-out and to spur on discussion.
Aieee it's showing that I de-sphunn a lot of things I didn't on my profile page under the "Desphinns" tab..

Having a problem desphinning... when i try it tells me that it is too short (and character count puts it at 194 characters, just under the max limit actually)!
@ 3S: Yeah, I also have that on my profile... there are a LOT of desphinns listed, but I don't even recall reading the articles in the first place!

Thanks for the feedback guys, we'll look into the issues of stories appearing in your Sphinns/Desphinns profile tabs. The tab issue should be fixed, so you probably just need a hard refresh in your browser as Michelle suggested.
Anyone still having trouble with the "character requirement" when attempting to desphinn something?
