Now that the Desphinn feature has gone live, I wanted to talk about some next developments we have in mind for Sphinn.
One of the challenges of running Sphinn is that the underlying Pligg software isn't that wonderful. Things you'd expect from forum software, such as user tracking, change modifications, story merge and lots more simply aren't there. Much of our work since launch has been to bring our version of Pligg more into prime time.
Sphinn: New Features Added covers all the things we've done over time, and I'd encourage you to check out what's been added. Spam Jail, Desphinns & Other Coming Features covers what was in the round of changes we've just completed. Thing will never be perfect, but I feel we have a much better array of tools and features for the site to continue growing going forward.
What's next? Well...
Those are the next major things, and we hope to bring them online in March. We also know that people want...
Other ideas? Please put them in the Sphinn Wishlist! Bugs and problems? Use the Sphinn: Known Issues and Bugs page.
Danny - my Sphinn on AOL-Yahoo merger talks seems to be MIA. Can you check out what happened?
Was it desphunn into a black hole? ;-)
Thanks,
Kevin
It was pulled because it was a duplicate of what Marty had submitted here. The only difference between the two was that he'd submitted the story with a link to the source, and you'd started a discussion referencing the story. Same headline, etc. Since he was in first, it was that story that made sense to keep, rather than changing the discussion thread you'd started into a news story and adding the link. The discussion had only one comment, one from Kevin Newcomb. Perhaps Kevin could add that to Marty's original post? I can email him what he posted, if he needs it.
PS, you should have gotten an email notification that it was a duplicate that was removed.
I would like Sphinn to crawl my blog, automatically Sphinn a new post, and give it a sensational title and description.
Seriously. I know it's a distant future thing, but I'm on my Treo more than my computer (clients really enjoy the piss poor emails that come from this stupid thing). So it would be nice if the Sphinn environment was mobile friendly. Like Ask's mobile site. Very nice and clean. I would love to keep up when I'm running around this town.
I might be asking for something that would be a bigger pain than not, but a Sphinn chatroom would be cool. When I really think about it I doubt it would take off. I'm sure most of us are super busy, and read in passing. Would still be nice to talk to some people in real time though.
@seofactor
Sphinn chatroom = Twitter at the mo. Have you tried that?
Sphinn needs "More Cow Bell"

It's not a different idea, so I'll post it here rather than the wishlist. Better search is NECESSARY for the SEARCH marketing news site. And not just advanced search. Plain old search. I often have a huge hassle trying to find stuff I know is here when the title is fairly close to my search. Also, searching for members would be good too. Make the Sphinn SERPs universal Danny ;).
Dannyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :-)
Where is my wish to make "Discussion Submissions" more visible !
Harith, that is on the list too, sorry. I should get it up there as a bulletpoint item, though. Can you drop a link here back to that long discussion started on making discussions more visible?
Happy to oblige, Danny :-)

I'll second the better search request. I have had trouble a couple of times in the past with this. Of course everyone here knows where to turn (site:) but it should be better for a SE related site.
Maybe you could add the option to frame Google results, I think this is pretty easy with custom search.
