From Michaels post:The way you can use Googles link: operator is to gauge a sites Google profile against other sites Google profiles. That is, if Googles random selection of links for your site provides fewer than 100 references and its random selection of links for your competitors site provides more than 1000 references, they may have a stronger link profile than yours. There are countless examples that contradict this assertion. This and other glaring issues with this post lend further credence to the idea that you should not listen to Michael Martinez. His contributions are among the most blatant examples of "time-wasting nonsense". People in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.
I love when people just throw out arbitrary percentages:Remember that as many as 60-70% of all links do NOT pass value in Google. This is based on what exactly?
I like this idea. I mean comparing Google to Google makes sense to me. But at the same time Google has (claims to have) the largest and most extensive index of any search engine.http://www.google.com/corporate/http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=2156481Thus a logical deduction would create a "general" rule of "if Yahoo sees or has seen it so does Google". In fact I try to get as many links from as many sources as possible. Google never tells you the whole story, so I never expect any other search engine to either. What is important is to keep them organized. So when you do see abnormalities adjustments can be made. Also lets remember that Google is not the only search engine. Even "search engines" are not the only search engines. Any website with external search can send you traffic. For me and my clients it is all about overall visibility. Links are the gauge to measure this. I dont care who hosts my clients links. If they are in an email, in a article on a newspaper site, or on a blog. Every link can send my client TRAFFIC!Search is great because it sends targeted traffic. Its not the only source of traffic. Its usually only half of it ;)For a theory and analysis blog. This post sure did have a lot of speculation. No sources sited. Why dont people site sources any more?
